On select nights from late August through October, Magic Kingdom closes to regular guests at 6:00pm — and cast members walk the park asking anyone without an orange wristband to leave.
I watched it happen at 6:03pm, standing right there by Tron. If you booked that night thinking you'd get the park until 10pm for fireworks, you just lost four hours you paid for.
Here's what's actually going on. Those nights are Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party — a separate, ticketed event that takes over the whole park in the evening. The people who get to stay have an orange wristband. Everybody else gets escorted out at 6pm so the party can start.
The catch nobody tells you: your regular park ticket does not get you in. The party is a separate ticket, priced dynamically by date.
Right now I'm looking at nights running from $149 all the way up to $224 per person — and the night I was there, it was $187.
For a family of four, that's another few hundred dollars on top of what you already spent, just to keep the evening you thought you had.
And it's not every night. The party runs on select dates, scattered through the fall — some nights it's on, some nights it's not. That's exactly why it catches people off guard. You book your Disney days, you picture a full evening with fireworks, and you don't realize the calendar quietly closed your park at 6pm.
How to not get burned: before you lock your Disney dates, check the Magic Kingdom calendar for party nights. If your night has a party, you've got three choices — plan to be out by 6pm and pivot to another park (Epcot or Hollywood Studios stay open later), buy the party ticket and lean into it for a long day, or just buy the Party ticket- they let you in at 4pm and stay late. But decide early, these parties sell out fast. However you plan, decide on purpose instead of getting walked out at 6:03pm wondering what happened.
Look at the calendar before you book. That one check saves your evening.
