How Long Is the Monorail Wait After Fireworks at Magic Kingdom?
After the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, the express monorail line is a Disaster.
Not a 30-minute wait — easily 45 minutes to HOURS, with a massive wall of people all funneling into the same station at the same second.
I stood there and watched it. It's almost criminal that Disney doesn't tell people there's a better way.
Because there is. I got from the park entrance to the rideshare pickup in about 20 minutes total — while that express crowd hadn't moved.
Here's the trick. There are two monorail lines at Magic Kingdom, and everybody piles into the wrong one. The express monorail runs straight from the park to the Transportation and Ticket Center — so after fireworks, the entire crowd stampedes to it. The line wraps around the station. It is not "express" when it's backed up like that.
It's a nightmare.
The resort monorail sits right next to it, nearly empty. It takes one extra stop — the Contemporary Resort — then drops you at the TTC. The ride itself is about 8 minutes. I walked right onto it while the express line was a sea of people, and from the moment I left the park entrance to the moment I reached the rideshare and shuttle area, it was about 20 minutes total. The crowd I left behind was still standing in the same spot.
Why doesn't everyone do this?
There's no sign, no announcement, nobody pointing you to it. The express line looks like the "right" one because it's the direct route, so that's where the herd goes. My honest guess — and it's only a guess — is that Disney lets the resort line run light so on-property resort guests get a faster trip, while everyone else eats the express crowd. I can't prove that. But the resort monorail was wide open, and that's a fact you can use tonight.
So the real answer to "how long is the monorail wait after fireworks": 45 minutes to hours if you get in the express line — or about 20 minutes, entrance to pickup, if you take the resort line instead. Same destination. One's a nightmare, one's nearly empty. I felt bad for all those people who didn't know.

One more option: if both monorail lines look brutal, the ferry across the lagoon is possibly a shorter wait after fireworks, because everyone defaults to the monorail. But don't count on it. And if you want to skip the crush entirely, leaving before the fireworks end saves you the worst of it — the lines build in the final minutes of the show.
But you do have to watch the fireworks at least one night so I'm trying to help you out.
