DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando Disney Springs Area sits on Hotel Plaza Boulevard — one of the most recognized addresses for Disney Springs hotels. The name sounds premium. The price reflects it.
I checked in feeling good.
It went downhill from there.
The elevator had a full glass front wall angled outward. When I stepped onto my floor it was genuinely ten degrees hotter than the lobby. That's not a small thing after a full day at Disney with kids.
The room was large but dated. Chips in the tub. A thin adjoining door — I heard the baby in the next room crying all night. One remote didn't work at all. The other required so much pressure I thought I'd break my thumb. Old school TVs.
The hot tub had 30% of its jets broken and wasn't even running.
Through the woods behind the property I could hear a gas station. Couldn't see it clearly but could hear it all night.
For that price — routinely $150 and up — none of that is acceptable. This is one of the pricier options on Hotel Plaza Boulevard. It delivers less than its price suggests.
Here's what kills me. The Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando Disney Springs Area is literally across the street. Sometimes the same price. Sometimes cheaper. A hundred times better experience depending on your trip. Nobody told me that before I booked.
I've stayed in 36 Disney-area budget hotels. This one made my list of four I won't go back to — and it's the most expensive one on the list.
